Belfast Airport Duty Free ...

Belfast Airport duty free offers passengers flying outside of the EU, and International long haul extra savings.

Passengers travelling within the EU, or International long haul can shop tax free. This shopping is as if the 17.5% value added tax has been excluded from the price.

Read on for unofficial information on your Belfast Airport duty free allowances and those goods that are prohibited and restricted.

The EU ...

UK Airport Customs ...

If you're travelling inside of the EU you can bring the following goods back into the UK without being charged any additional customs duty:
  • 250g of tobacco or 200 cigarettes or 100 cigarillos or 50 cigars

  • 2 Litres of still table wine, or fortified or sparkling wine, or other liqueurs or 1 Litre of alcoholic beverages stronger than 22%

  • 250ml of toilet water and 50g of perfume

  • Souvenirs and other goods to the value of £145

  • Goods obtained duty paid and tax paid in the EU are unlimited
Remember that any goods brought into an EU Country that have already had tax paid won't be charged any extra tax or duty.

All goods bought and transported must be done so by the person that these are for. Not carried by any other passengers. All alcohol or tobacco good brought into the UK must only be for personal consumption or gifts.

Resale or for payment of any kind will not be allowed for these goods and if having been bought for this purpose, will be viewed as commercial.

Customs Officers who suspect any goods are being brought into the UK for commercial use will ask a selection of questions.

They will ask about the type and quantity of goods. How often the passenger travels. Why the goods were bought. How much money was paid etc.

A Customs Officer will also consider if the goods are on display or if they look like they have been concealed.

Customs would suspect the following for instance:
  • 3kg tobacco
  • 200 cigars
  • 400 cigarillos
  • 3,200 cigarettes
  • 10 Litres of spirits
  • 20 Litres of fortified wine (i.e. port or sherry)
  • 110 Litres of beer
  • 90 Litres of wine
Any goods considered being imported for a commercial use could be seized and not returned.  Likewise, if caught being sold.

Many Countries have their own restrictions and laws on the tobacco and alcohol goods you can have in your possession.  Including carrying permits to carry the goods. Always check first with the Country’s Authorities before purchasing the goods.
