Flying With Children & Babies ...

When flying with children and babies have a read through this helpful guide so you are fully prepared for your flight departing Belfast Airport.

Seats On The Plane ...

It's important you are properly seated on the plane, so when you are booking your holiday ask about seating for families with young children.

Bulkhead seats, found near the front of each cabin divide, have facilities for children. Sometimes these can be pre-booked or they may be allocated to early families checking-in. This is why it's important to check.

Check- in With Children ...

If your airline's bulkhead seats are allocated on a first come, first served basis you will need to make sure you leave home nice and early.

To do this effectively work out how long it will take getting to the airport. Then make enquiries as to whether there are any road works or delays. Put a road map in your car in case of diversions. Also pre-book your airport parking to you don't waste time at the other end.

Once you've worked all this out leave at least 45 minutes before hand so any last minute toilet trips can be accommodated without eating into your time when you're already running late.

Flying With Children ...

Don't waste time at the airport trying to park when you should be at check-in.

Book your airport parking, or even better, the hugely family-friendly meet and greet parking service.

All you need to do is unpack your baggage and family having driven right up outside the terminal. You leave your car with the Rep who's waiting for you and you can go straight through to check-in. Your car is kept in a safe car park until your return date. It's then brought to the airport terminal by the Rep who's again waiting for you with the keys for you to drive straight home. How wonderful is that - no hanging around in the cold and rain and dark in a car park waiting for the transfer bus.

Firstly ask about the bulkhead seats when you check-in. If there aren't any available, ask to be seated next to any available empty seats. This will be much better for your little ones so they've got a bit more room.

Families are always asked to board the aircraft before the other passengers. Make sure therefore you are all ready to get on when called so you can get everything out of your hand luggage that you and your children will need once airborne and the seatbelt signs are on.

Buying Baby Essentials Overseas - formula, food etc. ...

Buying Baby Foods Overseas

Many parents worry about flying overseas with a baby or young toddler and then not being able to purchase the usual formula or baby food. In the following sections we aim to provide helpful unofficial information on purchasing your baby essentials like formula, nappies and safe drinking water.

Safe Water For Babies

It’s always worth, when flying with babies or very young children, to pack a certain amount of baby food like jars and formula in your suitcase. This is so you can arrive at your destination and get unpacked and settled before rushing off out in a panic trying to find emergency formula milk. Don't, due to baby's delicate tummy, give your baby tap water to drink when overseas.

Give your baby bottled water for drinking. For making up formula also use bottled water and boil first as you would back home in the UK. When you buy bottled water it is very important to check that the bottled water you are buying contains no more than 30 Na of sodium. If you’re travelling to Spain you'll find that many of the pharmacies sell specially distilled water for babies.

Formula Milk

Formula milk is readily available in Europe, however you will need to go to a pharmacy to buy it. Similar milk powder brands are available but do carry a different name, Cow & Gate in Spain for example is actually called Almiron. Any other queries about buying your particular brand of formula milk abroad should be asked to the manufacturer of your milk brand - call their telephone advice line on the pack of the milk packet.

Buying Jarred Baby Foods

Anyone travelling to mainland Europe will find it easy to buy baby food in jars. Across Europe a brand called Hero is a very available. Hipp is also readily available and so are products from Nestle. Local supermarkets, although if you are somewhere small then try a larger main supermarket, should all stock a good selection of baby foods and snacks. As will most pharmacies.
Buying Nappies

Purchasing nappies overseas is easy. Just try any local supermarket where both main brands such as Huggies and Pampers are readily available. Do note however, that in many European Countries cotton nappies are very rare, particularly in Spain, so if you would normally use re-useable nappies then you might need to consider using disposables just whilst you are away.
